Tradify vs ServiceM8

Two of the best-known job apps in Australia, priced in opposite ways: Tradify per user, ServiceM8 by the jobs you do each month.

The short answer

Pick Tradify if you are a small crew doing a mix of project and service work, you want quoting, scheduling, timesheets and job costing in one app, and you are fine paying per user. Pick ServiceM8 if you run lots of short call-out jobs from a dispatch board and want unlimited users, paying by the jobs you do each month.

We build TrackYaTradie, a third option covered at the end. Every Tradify and ServiceM8 detail here comes from their own sites, checked 25 October 2026.

What a crew of 1, 3 or 8 pays a month

Tradify multiplies by people. ServiceM8 multiplies by jobs, so the crew size barely matters and your job count does. These are list prices for everyone logging in, on the cheapest plan and on the plan where job costing starts.

Monthly cost by crew size, checked 25 October 2026
Plan1 person3 people8 people
Tradify Lite (no costing), inc GST$52.80$158.40$422.40
Tradify Pro (costing starts here), inc GST$57.20$171.60$457.60
ServiceM8 Starter (50 jobs, no Job Costing), inc GST$29$29$29
ServiceM8 Premium (Job Costing starts here, 500 jobs), inc GST$149$149$149
TrackYaTradie (ours: Sole Trader, Starter, Pro)$35$79$149

Checked 25 October 2026, list prices, no promotions. Tradify lists its prices ex GST, so we added 10% to compare like with like; ServiceM8 lists them inc GST. A sole trader can also use ServiceM8's free plan for up to 30 jobs a month. ServiceM8 Growing ($79, 150 jobs) sits between the two ServiceM8 rows, without Job Costing. TrackYaTradie prices are in AUD, one flat price per business.

With job costing on both, the crossover is at three people. Two people on Tradify Pro pay $114.40 a month inc GST, less than ServiceM8 Premium at $149. Three pay $171.60, more than Premium, and every extra person adds $57.20. ServiceM8 stays at $149 until you pass 500 jobs a month (Premium Plus is $349).

Who each one suits

Tradify suits

  • Small crews whose headcount is steady, so the per-user bill is predictable.
  • A mix of quoted projects and service work, with timesheets and job costing on the same plan (Pro).
  • Owners who want their schedule in Google Calendar as well.

ServiceM8 suits

  • High-volume call-out work that is booked and dispatched, with a dispatch map and live staff locations.
  • Growing crews: adding a person costs nothing on a paid plan, only more jobs do.
  • Taking card payments on site, including Tap to Pay on iPhone.

Where they are the same

Both have iPhone and Android apps, both sync with Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks Online, both do progress invoicing, and both offer a 14-day free trial. Run the same real job through both trials: quote it, schedule it, log a day of hours and invoice it, and count how often you retype something.

A third option: one flat price

If neither pricing model fits, TrackYaTradie (ours) charges one flat price per business: $35 a month for a sole trader, $79 for up to 3 tradies, $149 for up to 10 and $249 for up to 25, with no job limits. Every job shows its live profit as hours and costs come in, on every plan.

It is deliberately lean: no dispatch map, no GPS, no inventory, and it syncs with Xero only. If you need a dispatch board or MYOB, one of these two will suit you better. Tradify vs ServiceM8 questions

Is Tradify or ServiceM8 cheaper?+

It depends on how many people log in and how many jobs you do. Tradify charges per user: a crew of 3 on Pro, where job costing starts, is 3 x $52 = $156 a month plus GST. ServiceM8 charges by jobs, with unlimited users on paid plans: Starter is $29 a month inc GST for 50 jobs, and Premium, where its Job Costing starts, is $149 for 500 jobs. Big crews on modest job counts usually pay less on ServiceM8; small crews doing lots of jobs can pay less on Tradify. Prices checked 25 October 2026.

Does ServiceM8 charge per user?+

No. ServiceM8's paid plans include unlimited users and are priced by the number of jobs a month. Its free plan is for 1 user and 30 jobs a month.

Which one has job costing?+

Both, on higher plans. Tradify's costing and bill tracking start on Pro ($52 per user a month ex GST). ServiceM8's Job Costing starts on Premium ($149 a month inc GST). If live job profit on every plan matters more than dispatch, TrackYaTradie has it from $35 a month.

Do Tradify and ServiceM8 work with Xero and MYOB?+

Yes. Both list Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks Online on their own sites.
