Best ServiceM8 alternatives in Australia: five compared

ServiceM8 is a strong app for call-out and service work. If the job-based pricing, the plan you need for job costing, or the dispatch-first design has you looking around, these are the five worth a trial, checked against each company's own website.

In short

The best ServiceM8 alternative depends on what you are moving away from. For job profit without a Premium plan, look at TrackYaTradie (one flat price per business) or NextMinute (actuals against the estimate by stage). For a like-for-like job management app, Tradify or Fergus, both priced per user. For stock, compliance and assets as well, AroFlo.

We build TrackYaTradie, so read that entry knowing it. Choosing between the two best-known apps? See Tradify vs ServiceM8. Working alone or on Android? The sole trader and Android guides go deeper.

Why tradies look past ServiceM8

Start with what ServiceM8 gets right. One person can use it free for up to 30 jobs a month, every paid plan has unlimited users, its feature overview shows a dispatch map with staff locations, it syncs with Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks Online, and its help centre says the Android app now has almost everything the iPhone app has. For call-out and service work it is hard to beat.

The reasons people shop around come from its own pricing page. Plans are set by jobs a month, in Australian dollars including GST: Starter $29 for 50 jobs, Growing $79 for 150, Premium $149 for 500 and Premium Plus $349 for 1,500+. A busy month can push you up a tier, and Job Costing is listed as "Available in Premium & Up". A crew that wants to see what each job made is really comparing Premium.

None of that makes ServiceM8 a bad choice. It means the right alternative depends on which of those things bothers you, and on whether your work is lots of short call-outs or a few long projects.

The alternatives, one by one

Best for, how it differs from ServiceM8, and what to watch for.

1. Tradify

Best for: small crews that want a well-known, all-round job management app with scheduling, quotes and invoices.

How it differs: Tradify charges per user, not per job: Lite $48, Pro $52 and Plus $62 per user a month, ex GST. A busy month costs nothing extra, but every login does. Costing and bill tracking start on Pro. It runs on desktop, tablet, iPhone and Android and syncs with Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks Online.

Watch for: the per-user bill grows with the crew, and the prices are ex GST. Head-to-head: Tradify vs ServiceM8.

2. Fergus

Best for: crews that want an established, workflow-driven system and are happy to pay per user.

How it differs: Fergus charges per user, per month: Essentials from $53 and Professional from $77, with cheaper timesheet-only users from $26. Every job card carries a Cost Report that pulls each cost on the job into one list. The Fergus Go app is on iOS and Android, and it syncs with Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks. The trial is 14 days with no credit card.

Watch for: per-user pricing again, and the pricing page does not say whether its prices include GST. Head-to-head: TrackYaTradie vs Fergus.

3. AroFlo

Best for: bigger service businesses that rely on ServiceM8's dispatch and staff tracking and now need inventory, safety compliance and asset maintenance as well.

How it differs: AroFlo is the deeper system. Its features page covers quoting, scheduling, timesheets, job costing, inventory, WHS compliance, assets and maintenance, and it has its own GPS tracking (AroPoint). Its integrations page lists Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks and Reckon.

Watch for: the starting price is $80 per user a month with a minimum of 3 users, on a sliding scale. There is no free trial listed: you book a demo, and setup has a cost, so ask. Head-to-head: TrackYaTradie vs AroFlo.

4. NextMinute

Best for: builders and project trades with three or more people who want costs tracked against the estimate by stage.

How it differs: NextMinute prices by crew-size band: Tradie Growth from $199 a month for 3 to 9 users and Tradie Pro from $349 for 10 to 14 users, plus GST. It says it shows actuals against the estimate by job or by stage as the work happens, and it syncs both ways with Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks.

Watch for: the published plans start at three users, so a sole trader should ask first, and the free trial is 10 days, shorter than the others here.

5. TrackYaTradie (ours)

Best for: sole traders and crews up to 25 doing project work who want to know whether each job is making money while it is still running.

How it differs: one flat price per business, set by the number of tradies, never by jobs or logins: $35 a month for a sole trader and $79 for up to 3 (every plan is on the pricing page). Live job profit is on every plan, with an alert when costs reach 85% of the invoice. Quotes, invoices with payment stages, crew hours and Xero sync are included, on iPhone, Android and the web.

Watch for: it is not a dispatch tool. There is no dispatch map or staff tracking, it syncs with Xero only, and it is a younger product than ServiceM8. Head-to-head: TrackYaTradie vs ServiceM8.

What a crew of 3 pays for job costing

ServiceM8 is the cheapest here if you only need jobs, quotes and invoices. The comparison changes once you want to see the profit on each job, because that is where each app puts its costing. Here is the list-price sum for an owner, a tradie and an apprentice, on the plan each company needs for job costing.

App and planWorkingA month
ServiceM8 Premium (Job Costing starts here)Unlimited users, 500 jobs, inc GST$149
Tradify Pro (costing starts here)3 x $52, ex GST$156 + GST
Fergus Essentials3 x from $53from $159
AroFlo3-user minimum x from $80from $240
NextMinute Tradie GrowthBand for 3 to 9 usersfrom $199 + GST
TrackYaTradie StarterFlat, up to 3 tradies$79

Checked 25 October 2026, list prices from each pricing page, no promotions. "From" means the company shows a starting price. Add-ons, setup fees and card fees are extra where they apply.

Price is half the decision. The other half is whether the app tells you, during the job, that the job is going wrong. Put a recent job through the job profit calculator to see what a live number would have shown you.

How to choose in ten minutes

  1. Count last month's jobs and this month's logins. Lots of short jobs favours per-user or flat pricing; a small crew with few jobs favours ServiceM8.
  2. Decide whether you need job costing. If you do, compare the plan where costing starts, not the cheapest plan.
  3. Decide whether you dispatch. If a map of vans and staff locations runs your day, keep ServiceM8 or look at AroFlo. If your crew is on the same site for weeks, you need the running profit more than the map.
  4. Check your books. On MYOB or QuickBooks, cross off anything that only syncs with Xero.
  5. Trial two at once and run the same real job through both.

Questions about ServiceM8 alternatives

What is the best ServiceM8 alternative in Australia?+

It depends on why you are leaving. If it is the jump to Premium for job costing, TrackYaTradie has live job profit on every plan from $35 a month, and NextMinute tracks actuals against the estimate by stage. If you want a like-for-like job management app, Tradify and Fergus are the closest swaps, both priced per user. If you need stock, compliance and asset maintenance as well, AroFlo is the bigger system.

Does ServiceM8 have job costing?+

Yes, on its higher plans. ServiceM8's own pricing page, checked 25 October 2026, lists Job Costing as available on Premium ($149 a month for 500 jobs, inc GST) and Premium Plus. The Free, Starter and Growing plans do not include it.

Which ServiceM8 alternatives do not charge per user?+

ServiceM8 itself charges by jobs, with unlimited users on its paid plans. Of the alternatives here, NextMinute charges by crew-size band and TrackYaTradie charges one flat price per business by the number of tradies. Tradify, Fergus and AroFlo all charge per user.

Which ServiceM8 alternatives work with MYOB?+

Tradify, Fergus, AroFlo and NextMinute all name MYOB on their own sites, as ServiceM8 does. TrackYaTradie syncs with Xero only, so if your books are on MYOB, one of the others will suit you better.
