Honest guide
ServiceM8 alternative for Android: what to use if your crew is not all on iPhone
ServiceM8 says plainly that it is optimised for Apple. If the person doing the books, or half the crew, carries an Android phone, that matters. Here is what ServiceM8 gives Android users, what it holds back, and what a flat-rate alternative looks like.

In short
ServiceM8's full app runs on iPhone and iPad. Android phones get ServiceM8 Lite, which ServiceM8 builds for technicians, subbies and casual workers, not for whoever runs the business. If the owner or the office is on Android, you need a different tool. TrackYaTradie runs in full on iPhone, Android and web, for one flat monthly price.

Why Android users leave ServiceM8
None of this is a knock on ServiceM8. It is what ServiceM8 says about itself, on its own site and in its help centre. Three things push Android users to look elsewhere.
1. The full app is built for iPhone and iPad
ServiceM8 does not hide this. Its home page says it is optimised for Apple and recommends iPhones or iPads to get the most out of it, and its help centre says the company has focused on Apple devices since it began. If you buy Android phones because they suit your budget, you are on the platform ServiceM8 treats as second.
"Because we optimise for Apple devices, we recommend using iPhones or iPads to get the most out of ServiceM8 for your business." servicem8.com/au
2. ServiceM8 Lite is for the field, not for the office
Android users get ServiceM8 Lite. It is a proper field app: checklists and forms, photos, time on site and, since a September 2025 update, creating jobs and sending PDF quotes and invoices. But ServiceM8 describes it as an app for technicians, subcontractors and temporary workers without a management role, and allocating bookings in allocation windows such as Urgent or Business Hours, and seeing other staff members' schedules, are on its own list of things Lite does not do. An apprentice is fine on Lite. The owner is not.
"Android users will not have access to features critical for management roles, and they will not have access to the advanced features exclusive to the ServiceM8 iOS app for iPhone & iPad." ServiceM8 help centre
3. Running the crew means a computer or an Apple device
The management side of ServiceM8 lives in its Online Dashboard and its iOS app. Its help centre calls the dispatch board the central hub of the product, where jobs are created, work is scheduled to staff and quotes and invoices are raised. On an Android phone you get the tech's slice of that, your own jobs and your own invoices, but not the scheduling of a crew. For that you go back to the laptop, or you buy an iPad.
"The dispatch board is the central hub of ServiceM8, where you will spend 90% of your time." ServiceM8 help centre

What a 3-person crew pays
Take a chippy with two on the tools: the owner, one qualified tradie and an apprentice. Everyone needs to log hours, and the owner needs to see where every job sits.
On TrackYaTradie that crew is the Starter plan at $79 a month, flat, for up to 3 tradies. Add hours, jobs and photos and the bill does not move. Every login gets the full app on whatever phone they own, and the owner sees live profit on each job.
ServiceM8 prices by job volume, not by user, so its figure depends on how many jobs you book each month. On its Australian pricing page, checked August 2026, its cheapest paid plan, Starter, is $29 a month for 50 jobs a month, Growing is $79 a month for 150 jobs and Premium is $149 a month for 500 jobs, all in Australian dollars including GST with unlimited users. At 50 jobs a month or fewer, ServiceM8 is cheaper on price alone. On Growing or above, put the two figures side by side.
Price is only half the sum. On ServiceM8 the Android tradies are on Lite and the owner schedules from a laptop or an iPad. On TrackYaTradie all three are on the same full app, with labour and supply costs landing against the job as they happen. Run your own numbers with the job profit calculator, and see every plan on the pricing page.

Where ServiceM8 is still the better pick
Be fair to it. ServiceM8 wins in four cases.
- Pure field service. If your work is call-outs, bookings and dispatch, a queue of short jobs each scheduled, driven to and invoiced, ServiceM8 was built for exactly that and its dispatch board is mature.
- All-Apple crews. If every phone in the business is an iPhone, the Android gap never touches you, and ServiceM8's iOS app is quick and polished.
- Add-ons. ServiceM8 offers add-ons such as its Advanced Reporting Pack that TrackYaTradie does not try to match. If you want a deep set of reports and extras, it has more of them.
- Track record. ServiceM8 has been around a long time and has a detailed help centre. TrackYaTradie is younger and founder-run: a real person replies fast, but there are fewer years on the clock.
TrackYaTradie is the better pick in the mirror image: a mixed-phone crew, project work where you want the margin before the job ends, and one flat bill. Sparky weighing a dispatch tool against job costing? See how TrackYaTradie fits electricians.
Moving over in an afternoon
Switching is smaller than it looks. The two tools overlap on the basics and both talk to Xero.
- Export your clients from ServiceM8. The Client List CSV export sits in the Reports tab of the Online Dashboard, under ServiceM8's Advanced Reporting Pack add-on, and needs the Business Owner role. If you sync invoices to Xero, your customers are there as contacts too.
- Start the trial and add your active clients. TrackYaTradie does not import a ServiceM8 file, so work down the CSV and add the clients you still do work for. Skip the ones you have not heard from in years.
- Re-enter open jobs, not finished ones. Create a project for each job still on the go, put in the quoted or invoiced value, and log the hours and supply costs spent so far. Leave completed jobs in ServiceM8 and keep the export for your records.
- Reconnect Xero. Connect Xero from Settings and invoices, costs and timesheets sync from then on. The Xero integration page lists what each sync does.
- Install both apps and invite the crew. The owner can use the iPhone app, the Android app or the web. Give each tradie their own login and the apprentice logs hours from their own phone from day one.
Common questions about ServiceM8 on Android
Does ServiceM8 have an Android app?+
Yes. It is called ServiceM8 Lite and it is on Google Play. ServiceM8 builds it for technicians, subcontractors and temporary workers without a management role. It covers a tech's own jobs, checklists, forms, photos and time on site and, since a September 2025 update, creating jobs and sending PDF quotes and invoices. ServiceM8 says Android users will not have access to features critical for management roles. The full ServiceM8 app is for iPhone and iPad.
Is there a flat-rate ServiceM8 alternative?+
TrackYaTradie is one. Plans run from $35 to $249 a month and each plan covers the whole crew up to its tradie limit, so extra hours, jobs and logins never add to the bill. ServiceM8 does not charge per user either, but it prices by how many jobs you book each month, so a busy month can push you up a tier: go over your limit and ServiceM8 gives you 7 days before it prompts you to upgrade.
Can I keep Xero if I switch?+
Yes. TrackYaTradie connects to Xero from Settings and syncs invoices, supply costs and timesheets. Your Xero file stays exactly where it is, so switching does not touch your bookkeeping history.
Can my apprentice log hours from an Android phone?+
Yes. The TrackYaTradie Android app is the full app, not a cut-down one. An apprentice logs hours per day against the job from their own phone and can see their hours for the current pay period. The owner sees the same hours in Timesheets on any device.
